ZA Collaborates with Cairo University in Ecocitizen World Map Project Feb 19, 2015
We are happy to announce that ZA will collaborate with a team of researchers from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, on a research project about Mobility and Waste Management in Zamalek. The research will last for 3 months, and it will focus on Ismail Mohamed Street (From Brazil to Aboul Feda). How are streets and sidewalks used? Where does trash come from and go to?
Professor Dr. Heba Khalil, a Zamalek resident, will head the research team, and 20 students in her class will conduct the actual research. This research is part of the larger Ecocitizen World Map Project (http://ecocitizenworldmap.org). It is an initiative about how citizens worldwide consume their resources. The data gathered and the reports produced are all uploaded online in digital map forms, thereby creating a tool for people to visualize how they are interacting with their environment (and hopefully try to enhance that interaction!).
Research will start this Sunday at the ZA office, with an introductory lecture to the students about their field site: Zamalek. We are happy to host the team, and hope that residents will extend them the same hospitality! We’ll keep you updated as the research progresses.
