The Zamalek Association’s fourth Taste of Zamalek, ‘Moulid Ramadan’ was a great success!

We chose the theme of ‘Moulid Ramadan’ –  using the colloquial term moulid here to signify a festive crowd that comes together to celebrate, feast, and be entertained. Moulid also implies birth (mawled), with all the sense of novelty, joy, and excitement that this term invokes. In this case, we are celebrating the birth of a new Ramadan moon, a new Egypt, and new hope in the future!

On July 7, 2014, the beautiful Horreya Park in Zamalek was decorated with hanging lights and flags, reminiscent of the “harras” or the neighborhood streets that are often decorated as such during Ramadan. We stirred up memories of Ramadan during simpler times with a neighborhood Iftar that lasted until Sohour! Everyone enjoyed fine foods from our local restaurateurs, shopping at the booths of local businesses, and socializing with members of the community. A big screen was showing the Ramadan TV soaps and the stage featured musicians Tarek Nassar & Ahl El Maghna as well as Hani Shenouda & El Masreyeen. The Tannoura whirled around the audiences while kids played traditional games and partook in fun activities.

We thank all who came and a big thank you to our sponsors:
